XXI Men’s World Handball Championship At the Preliminary Round the teams are broken into 4 groups of 6 teams each for a round-robin. To reach Main Round it is necessary to be amongst the top three where the teams will also play in a round-robin, with due account of previous internal matches. Only the first and the second teams of each groups will qualify for the semifinals. The finals will be held in Zagreb on February 01, 2009. The current world champion is the German team.
